Over the past 15 years, the open data movement has fully entered a new phase in its evolution, shifting to target real-world problems and embed open data thinking into other existing or emerging communities of practice, but big questions still remain. How are open data initiatives responding to new concerns about privacy, inclusion, and artificial intelligence? And what have we learned about how to deliver impact where it is most needed?
D4D.net hosted a series of roundtables to gather global and regional perspectives on the recent use and impact of open data around the world on issues ranging from artificial intelligence and data protection to climate action, gender, and health, and so much more.
Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director of the Datasphere Initiative, spoke at the session “Global Observations on the State of Open Data” on Tuesday, April 20, 2023, from 2pm – 3pm UTC / 4pm – 5pm CEST.
This panel discussion served key themes from across the State of Open Data essays, before turning to look at the path ahead and sharing and discussing a preliminary set of conclusions about the roles that different stakeholders need to play to build, maintain and hold to account open and inclusive data infrastructure and ecosystems. Also, it outlined opportunities for further discussions and actions through upcoming key events and forums in the year ahead.
