Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director of the Datasphere Initiative, provided an expert presentation at a Central Asia Regional Digital Trade Working Group Meeting on September 6, 2022. The meeting “Trustworthy Digital Trade: data governance, data protection, cybersecurity, and cross border data flows” was organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), a legal technical assistance office within the United States Department of Commerce. 

Government officials, civil society, and private sector representatives from Central Asia and the United States gathered to discuss and identify digital trade challenges and developed recommendations for an open, inclusive, and secure digital infrastructure and legal enabling environment that can serve as a strong foundation for digital trade across the Central Asia Region. 

Ms. Porciuncula shared insights about data’s unique multi-dimensional properties and what they can mean for policymaking and the designing of innovative and interoperable governance models.
