Exploring sandboxes in the health sector: Why, when and how to support responsible innovation?

Data and AI hold great potential to manage public health crises, improve the effectiveness of healthcare service delivery and foster innovation. However the health sector faces significant challenges ranging from inadequacy of data to the low adoption of digital tools, which hinders countries’s ability to generate and collect data that would inform effective healthcare practices. Furthermore, access and sharing personal health data is still a challenge due to several reasons including lack of proper guidelines and frameworks to make such data available for research.

This webinar organized by the Datasphere Initiative, Asia eHealth Information Network and Village Reach, will explore the potential of sandboxes for health. 

Sandboxes provide a flexible, innovative way to test data-intensive technologies, ensuring responsible value unlocking for both local and cross-border health challenges. Defined as safe spaces to test new technologies and practices against regulatory frameworks or experiment with innovative uses and means of governing data. Sandboxes were initially used in FinTech and are now being applied to broader sectors—from transportation to telecommunications to healthcare They can be operational, regulatory, or hybrid.

This webinar will provide an opportunity for participants to learn about sandboxes and their potential to assist with digital health challenges. Speakers will present their health sandbox applications and discuss the opportunities and challenges they have faced when designing a sandbox to tackle a specific health challenge in their country or region. Register here
