Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence in Mercosur

In the context of the cooperation between the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br), through the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br), during Brazil’s Pro Tempore Presidency in Mercosur, different capacity building activities were taking place. 

Specifically, Cetic.br | NIC.br, in collaboration with the Datasphere Initiative, organized a webinar series to promote reflection on the need for effective data governance that ensures the responsible development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the use of data for the public good.

The webinar series “Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence in Mercosur” aimed to raise awareness, provide training in data and AI policies, and share relevant experiences and insights in this field. Government officials, policymakers, business leaders, startups, academics, and civil society organizations are invited to discuss the intersection of technology and data governance in Mercosur and how to address the associated opportunities and challenges.

The Webinar Series – Data Governance and Artificial Intelligence in Mercosur

• Webinar #1 “Navigating Data Governance in the Digital Transformation Era: A Mercosur Perspective”: Taking place on November 13, 2023, participants explored during this webinar the concept of data governance, its relevance in the context of technology and data-driven economies, and the experiences of Mercosur countries in this regard.
• Webinar #2: “Unlocking the Power of AI with Data Governance: From Regional Experiences to Global Best Practices”: Taking place on November 14, 2023, this webinar delved into why data governance is crucial to achieving better results in AI. Participants explored the region’s experiences in implementing data governance in the context of AI, the critical link between data governance and AI, as well as what can be learned from regional experiences and international best practices.
