On December 14th, 2021 at 11.30-12.30 UTC, the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network (I&JPN) hosted a Workshop at the African Internet Governance Forum. Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director of the Datasphere Initiative and Nashilongo Gervasius, Digital Policy Researcher and Datasphere Initiative Fellow shared perspectives on why policymakers must consider cross-border dimensions and impacts data governance policies.
The Workshop also provided an opportunity to share engagement opportunities around the new Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network Project to develop an Internet & Jurisdiction in the African Union Regional Status Report which will be produced to help frame, map, and address cross-border digital policies across the African Continent (Read more here)
The 10th meeting of the African Internet Governance Forum was held virtually under the theme “Advancing digital transformation in Africa in the face of Crisis” from 14-16 December 2021. The thematic sessions are aligned to the foundational areas outlined in Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa 2020-2030 (DTS) whose overall objective is to harness digital technologies and innovation to transform societies and economies to promote Africa’s integration, generate inclusive economic growth, stimulate job creation, break the digital divide, and eradicate poverty for the continent’s socio-economic development.
