The Datasphere Initiative’s #Youth4OurDataFuture is one of the winners of the Omidyar Network Future of Data Challenge. The competition saw hundreds of organizations apply with transformative solutions to reimagine the data economy and help build a more equitable data future for all.
#Youth4OurDataFuture aims to develop awareness-raising and learning campaigns, to showcase the voices and experiences of youth from the United States on how data shapes their lives. Results and learnings will be shared to bridge gaps between youth and decision-makers through structured advocacy and outreach.
The Datasphere Initiative has gathered partners and an advisory group to support the project’s development and ensure outreach to youth is impactful and far-reaching.
The project was launched during an online event on August 30, 2023. The event presented the planned outputs of the #Youth4OurDataFuture project including the Datasphere Initiative’s plans to kick-start awareness-raising and learning campaigns, to showcase the voices and experiences of youth on how data shapes their lives. During a panel discussion youth leaders and young advocates were invited to share their experiences on their work with youth and why youth voices are fundamental to shaping our data future.
As part of the project’s awareness-raising campaign, the Datasphere Initiative is calling for young people to share their views on a range of data governance questions as part of a video competition.
Submissions will be accepted until October 31, 2023, at 11:59 pm ET and should be uploaded either to TikTok and/or Instagram tagging @youth4data and with the #Youth4OurDataFuture hashtag.
