The Datasphere Initiative is pleased to announce that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has joined the Datasphere Initiative as an Institutional Partner.
The partnership will further enhance the engagement of UNESCO in the network of the Datasphere Initiative, and the organizations will work together to amplify common efforts to responsibly unlock the value of data for all.
“The Datasphere Initiative is pleased to welcome UNESCO as an institutional partner. UNESCO is leading global dialogue on important areas of our data-driven society from reliability of online information to ethical AI. We look forward to this collaboration,” said Lorrayne Porciuncula, Executive Director, Datasphere Initiative.
The partnership was announced at a conference organized by UNESCO on 21-23 February on “Internet for Trust – Regulating Digital Platforms for Information as a Public Good”. The Chief Vision Officer of the Datasphere Initiative, Bertrand de La Chapelle spoke at the event which discussed how digital platforms have been used as vectors for disinformation, hate speech, conspiracy theories and other content potentially harmful to democracy, and human rights.
“UNESCO and Datasphere will work together to synergize their works on responsible data governance,” said Dr Tawfik Jelassi, Assistant Director General for UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector.
